Nella period panties are designed to replace disposable pads, tampons, cups, and panty liners, offering reliable protection day and night throughout your menstrual cycle.
Nella period panties look like regular underwear with their built-in three -layer absorbent core, discreetly hidden within the gusset.
They are crafted from innovative and natural fabrics that allow the panties to be used during menstruation without leaks, odors, or even the sensation of humidity.
Yes, Nella panties are made from fabric and can be washed and reused for many years. With proper care, they can last up to 5 years, depending on how often you wear them each cycle. Since you’ll likely only wear them once or twice a month, having a few pairs to rotate between washes will ensure they last for several years.
Over 45 billion tampons and pads are thrown away worldwide every year, taking 500 years to decompose—just like plastic bottles. Nella panties last up to 5 years. Wash them, reuse them, and take a step towards a more sustainable future with our innovative solution.
It has a top layer made from organic cotton that wicks blood into the absorbent layer below, keeping you fresh and dry without feeling of humidity. The middle layer, made from highly absorbent bamboo fiber, and capable of holding the equivalent of 2-3 pads.
The bottom layer is constructed from waterproof fabric to prevent any leaks. Our panties are thoughtfully designed to ensure you stay dry and comfortable, whether during the day or through the night.
For your first experience with Nella menstrual panties, we recommend to test them at home on the third day of your period.
Once you’re comfortable and everything is going smoothly, feel free to wear your panties all day at work or school, even on your heaviest days, provided you don’t experience hemorrhagic-type periods (such as those caused by a copper IUD, endometriosis, or hormonal disbalances)
You can wear Nella menstrual panties for 8-12 hours, depending on your flow.
For women with very heavy flows such as hemorrhagic flow (due to a copper IUD, endometriosis, hormonal disbalances, or certain adolescent periods), wearing the panties for 12 hours on your heaviest day may be challenging. You might need to change panties during the day to prevent discomfort from moisture. Alternatively, on that day, you can use a menstrual cup, and our absorbent panties provide excellent additional back up protection.
The number of panties you need depends on how you use them. If you plan to wear them only at night and wash them daily, 2-3 pairs should be enough for your entire cycle: wash them in the morning and wear them again the following night. However, if you intend to wear them both day and night and wash them all together at the end of your cycle, you’ll need around 8 to 10 pairs, depending on the length of your period. For something in between, with at least one wash mid-cycle, 4 to 5 pairs should suffice
Regardless of the model, if you choose the ‘Nella Heavy’ absorption level panty, it can absorb up to 20 ml, equivalent to 3 tampons or 2 disposable pads, and provides up to 12 hours of protection for a moderate flow.
Our sizes conform to international and European standards and have been tested on real women. Visually, they might appear larger than your usual panties. However, this is solely due to the design of the gusset and the use of natural fabrics, which are not as elastic as synthetic materials. They are shaped like boyshort panties with a medium rise.
We recommend that you choose your usual size. You can also check the size guide on our product pages for more guidance. If you find yourself between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size for optimal comfort during your period.
The Nella panties are designed to handle all types of discharge, tailored to each individual’s needs. It’s wise to have a couple of HEAVY absorbency panties for the heavy days and nights, MEDIUM for mid-cycle, and LIGHT for the very beginning or end of your period.
We use droplet icons to indicate how much discharge our panties can handle. The more droplets, the more they can absorb, helping you pick the perfect pair for your flow.
Not at all —our menstrual panties are designed to absorb anywhere from the equivalent of one pad (LIGHT absorption) to three pads (HEAVY Absorption).
That said, if you experience very heavy periods due to a copper IUD, endometriosis, hormonal disbalances, or certain adolescent periods, and you feel more secure with extra internal protection such as a menstrual cup on your heaviest days, you absolutely can do that.
😉 Rest assured, it doesn’t feel like a diaper! We use ultra-thin, highly absorbent, and breathable fabrics, ensuring that all our period panties are only about 3 mm thick. Our users love how light and discreet they feel, even on heavy-flow days.
There aren’t any special care instructions, but to help your panties last longer, here are a few tips to follow:
Yes, absolutely! If you experience light urinary leaks, wearing our panties can provide you with great comfort and peace of mind
It is estimated that around 200 million people globally experience some form of urinary incontinence, with women being disproportionately affected. Studies suggest that 1 in 3 women may experience urinary incontinence at some point in their lives, particularly after childbirth, menopause, or as they age. In fact, urinary incontinence is more common in women than in men due to differences in anatomy and life events like pregnancy and childbirth.
Yes, absolutely. You can use Nella menstrual wear in the following situations:
Nella period panties are made from innovative fabrics and organic cotton, designed to feel just like regular underwear. Unlike sanitary pads or tampons, which can contain up to 90% plastic and often cause irritation or infections, period panties are non-toxic and gentle on your skin. They allow for natural blood flow, reducing the risk of bacteria growth associated with Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), which can happen with tampons. The absorbent layer is integrated into the panties, ensuring it stays securely in place and feels comfortable, unlike pads that can shift, fold, or feel wet. Additionally, Nella panties are crafted with Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified fabrics, meaning they’re free of harmful chemicals for both your body and the environment. They also aren’t treated with silver nanoparticles, unlike some other absorbent underwear on the market.
Main Fabric
92% Lenzing Modal and 8% Elastane. It’s a soft, breathable, and moisture-absorbing fabric made from eco-friendly wood pulp. It is completely safe for the environment and “extremely gentle” on your skin.
Absorbent Zone
The absorbent zone consists of three fabric layers:
A woman typically goes through around 450 menstrual cycles in her lifetime, spending an average of $3 to $5 per month on disposable menstrual products, which amounts to $200 to $300 over five years. This represents a significant financial burden. Although the initial cost of reusable menstrual protection is higher, its long-term use makes it a worthwhile investment. Over a five-year period, a set of 3-4 reusable panties can save women between $150 and $200. Furthermore, it eliminates the need to dispose of $3 to $5 worth of tampons and pads each month, which not only saves money but also greatly reduces waste. This makes Nella panties both a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option.
Initially, we planned to manufacture the Nella panties at a local production facility in Uzbekistan, aiming to bring new industry and jobs to the area. However, we soon realized that starting local production would be challenging due to the lack of specialized workshops, technical expertise, and necessary fabrics.
For now, we are working with a highly recommended and certified workshop in Shantou, known for producing quality products for European brands. We use locally sourced materials such as organic cotton, modal lenzing and bamboo fiber, which are processed directly in their native regions. Along with certified and carefully monitored materials, our workshop—located in the world’s lingerie hub—follows strict ethical and environmental standards, ensuring fair wages and good working conditions. These standards are audited annually by the independent organization AMFORI BSCI.
Contrary to popular belief, ‘Made in Europe’ doesn’t always mean to a lower carbon footprint. In fact, for menstrual panties that require specialized fabrics, importing materials from countries like India, Turkey, China, or Egypt to Europe is neither environmentally nor economically sustainable. This practice significantly contributes to global textile pollution and increases the carbon footprint. For these reasons, we chose a workshop located near countries, where our products are sold.
